The services, which include heart monitoring and testing, respiratory therapy, sleep studies and diabetes and gynaecology services, will deliver essential specialist healthcare to rural and remote communities across Queensland via purpose-built, clinics-on-wheels – the Heart Trucks.
This month’s visits to Dalby, Miles and Moranbah are being supported by Arrow Energy, which has partnered with Heart of Australia since its inception almost 10 years ago.
Heart of Australia Founder and Director, Dr Rolf Gomes, said the service had seen more than 16,000 patients across 43 communities, and saved 600 lives, since it started in 2014.
“As our Foundation Partner, Arrow Energy has been pivotal in helping the Heart of Australia program grow as exponentially as it has,” Dr Gomes said. “With their support, we have been able to reach thousands of country Australians who lack critical access to specialist healthcare and would otherwise miss out on the receiving the appropriate care they urgently need.
“By working with partners like Arrow, we’re able to bring both the specialists and the diagnostic equipment straight to the patient’s doorstep. We estimate that this has saved our patients over 33,000,000kms in travel over the past nine years.
“We urge anyone in the communities of Dalby, Miles and Moranbah to speak to their GP about their health concerns and determine if a visit to the Heart Truck is the right choice for them.”
Arrow CEO Godson Njoku said the company was proud to help Heart of Australia deliver its services to rural and remote communities, particularly those where Arrow operates.
“Arrow has hundreds of people across Dalby, Miles and Moranbah and we genuinely feel part of those communities, which is why we’re thrilled to work with Rolf and his team and be a part of the Heart of Australia journey,” Godson said.
“Queensland’s rural and remote communities often don’t have the same level of medical support as our cities and regional centres.
“Arrow joined as foundation partner to create Australia’s first mobile cardiology and respiratory clinic to address this state of affairs. It’s inspiring to see how the service has expanded over the years – with five custom-built mobile clinics now covering almost every corner of the state.”
