Arrow have prepared and submitted an Environmental Authority (EA) amendment application for the Surat Gas Project South (SGPS) EA0001613, originally approved in December 2018.
In March 2025, we made some updates to the EA, which we submitted to the Queensland Government for consideration. We are following the EA process, with a 20-business-day public consultation period now open.
What is new?
The EA amendment application relates to an area of PL493 and PL1040 (a map is provided on the attached notice) and does not seek to increase the number of currently approved wells.
It does seek to:
- update impacts to prescribed environmental matters (PEMs) and matters of state environmental significance (MNES);
- update impacts to Category B and C environmentally sensitive areas (ESAs);
- update administrative conditions associated with the development of 84 natural gas wells and supporting infrastructure; and
- remove constraints-based groundwater conditions for PL493 that Arrow consider to be no longer applicable to this environmental authority due to extensive groundwater modelling, which shows that wells planned under the EA amendment will not impact the direction of the groundwater flow.
Why was the EA amended?
The amendment application lodged in March 2025 seeks approval for an update to biodiversity impacts to Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs) and Prescribed Environmental Matters (PEMs).
Following feedback from the Department of Environment, Technology, Science and Innovation (DETSI), Arrow submitted another amended application in April 2025, to address feedback and clarify that Arrow is not seeking any additional wells or infrastructure within the EA.
How can you have your say?
The community can have their say by making a submission about the application documents, up until 5 September. Details on how to make a submission are outlined in the public notice below.
