Arrow Energy supports hundreds of local jobs as Surat Gas Project progresses

05 August 2026

Arrow Energy has announced it will begin developing the next phase of its Surat Gas Project (SGP) in an area south of Chinchilla in late 2026, supporting hundreds of local jobs in the Western Downs.

Surat Gas Project Central will involve the construction of gas production infrastructure and facilities over a seven-year period, with first gas targeted by 2028.

Since commencing the SGP in 2020, Arrow has grown its workforce to more than 1,000 people, including more than 800 roles based in the Surat Basin.

Chief Executive Officer Xinmiao Tong said the project was continuing to deliver significant economic benefits to the region.

“SGP Central is an exciting next step as we continue to build momentum across the Surat Gas Project and turn our long-term commitment to the Western Downs into tangible outcomes for communities,” Mr Tong said.

“We’re proud to be sustaining long-term local employment, with approximately 150 employees based at our Chinchilla and Dalby offices and a further 700 contractors working on our project through our delivery partners.

“In 2025-26, Arrow spent $73 million in the Western Downs and Toowoomba regions, and the next phase of development will create further opportunities for local businesses to join our supply chain.

“Arrow’s support for the community already includes the Chinchilla Melon Festival, Chinchilla One Long Table and local sporting clubs, and we remain committed to contributing to the region through our community and social investment program.

“With dozens of landholder agreements in place to support the first stages of activity in Warra and southern Brigalow, we will continue to build strong, mutually beneficial landholder relationships across the project area.”
