Arrow Energy establishes permanent operations team in Miles

29 October 2026

Arrow Energy has established a permanent operations team in Miles, with a group of experienced employees now living and working in the local community to support the company’s growing Surat Gas Project North development.

The team will help operate and maintain Arrow’s natural gas wells and supporting infrastructure as they continue to come online as part of the northern development.

Arrow Operations Manager Mac Gordon said the establishment of a permanent workforce in Miles reflected the company’s long-term commitment to the region.

“Having a dedicated team based in Miles means our people can build stronger connections with the community while supporting the safe and reliable operation of our facilities,” Mr Gordon said.

“With work continuing to progress on our Surat Gas Project North, it’s another important step in our long-term investment in the Western Downs and recognises the important role Miles plays in the future of our operations.”

The team has now begun settling into life in Miles as construction and commissioning activities continue.

Multi-skilled operator John Wanka has worked with Arrow for more than a decade and said it was rewarding to see the project progress from its early stages to development.

“I started in exploration and appraisal in this area, and it’s rewarding to be back in the region and see it all come to fruition,” Mr Wanka said.

Fellow operator Jordan Brown said being located in Miles allowed the team to be part of the community while supporting local operations.

“Being present and able to give back to the community is important as we build the project,” Mr Brown said.

“The interactions we’ve had so far with the community have been really friendly, and everyone’s been very helpful.”

Another operator, Fred Westhoff, said the move to Miles had given him the chance to take on a new challenge.

“It’s an opportunity to grow within the business and be part of something new,” Mr Westhoff said.

Surat Gas Project North, located north-east of Miles, is the second development area in Arrow’s multi-phase project. Major works commenced in early 2025.

Project status:

  • Stage one more than 60 per cent complete
  • More than 130 of 250 stage one gas wells constructed
  • More than 180 kilometres of pipeline installed
