Cancer walk draws Arrow backing

11 October 2013

Australia’s first Weekend to End Women’s Cancer fundraiser will be held in Brisbane this month, with Arrow Energy signed on as a sponsor.

Arrow Energy CEO Andrew Faulkner said the two-day walk would be held on October 26-27.

“The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers is about raising money for QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for cancer research and cancer care, and I am pleased we are on board,” Mr Faulkner said.

“It’s a proven model that has raised more than $300 million overseas. I commend organisers for bringing it to Australia to aid the cancer fight for Australian women.”

The Brisbane event is the first of four planned around the nation this financial year.

“We’re still two months out and already the top fund raisers have more than $10,000 in donations apiece, which points to a massive shot in the arm for Queensland’s cancer research and care.”

Aside from the sponsorship, Arrow will provide a pitstop for walkers, handing out refreshments like water and oranges.

Arrow’s sponsorship of the event is drawn from its Brighter Futures social investment program.

Brighter Futures supports not-for-profit community groups and organisations in projects and initiatives that make a sustainable contribution to communities in Arrow’s areas of operation. It has a particular focus on health, safety, education and environmental awareness.

Last year, Arrow invested more than $3.7 million in community projects across the state.
