For the third year, Arrow is sponsoring the King of the Mountain (KOM) award — a points-based competition to find the best uphill rider over the three most torturous stages of the Tour’s five stages.
Points are awarded to the first five riders over the summit of designated climbs, and a KOM jersey is presented at the end of each stage to the rider who leads the cumulative KOM points tally. The coveted orange polka dot Arrow Energy KOM Jersey Award is presented to the KOM Champion at the end of the Tour.
“King of the Mountain is a competition for only the most committed riders,” said Arrow Energy CEO Andrew Faulkner, himself a keen cyclist.
“Anyone who rides the Tour is obviously supremely fit and mentally strong, but the King of the Mountain adds an extra dimension to the challenge.
“This is our third year of sponsorship and we’re very pleased to be involved with such a motivational event.”
The 2014 FKG Tour of Toowoomba will be held from May 22 to 25 over five stages: a challenging team time trial and the inner city criterium, as well as the three gruelling road stages that contribute points to the KOM.
It will be the third round of the 2014 Subaru National Road Series (NRS) and is the only NRS Teams event to be staged in Queensland.
Arrow’s sponsorship comes from its Brighter Futures community investment program.
Brighter Futures supports local, not-for-profit community groups and organisations undertaking projects and initiatives that make a sustainable contribution to Arrow’s areas of operation throughout Queensland.
