Surat Gas Project (SGP) North Environmental Authority (EA0001399) amendment application response to a request for further information (RFI)

02 August 2024

Resource activity: Site specific petroleum activity

It is advised that Arrow CSG (Australia) Pty Ltd has lodged an application for a major amendment to an environmental authority in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1994. The existing environmental authority (EA) being amended is EA0001399, which applies to the following Petroleum Leases (PL): PL304, PL305, PL491, PL492, PL494 and PL1044, also known as the Surat Gas Project North (SGP North).

The application involves amendments to the existing environmental authority to authorise impacts to prescribed environmental matters and matters of state environmental significance, impacts to Category B and C environmentally sensitive areas and administrative amendments to the conditions associated with the development of 214 wells and supporting infrastructure within PL305, PL491 and PL492 (SGP North Stage 1).

The project area of SGP North Stage 1 is located to the north of Miles, Queensland. This resource activity is proposed to occur within the areas of PL305, PL491 and PL492 (refer to the map) and involves the development and continued operation of natural gas wells, pipelines and supporting infrastructure. The EA amendment application considers the inclusion of the following Environmentally Relevant Activities (ERAs) to support the SGP North Stage 1. These are:

  • ERA 15 Fuel burning – Field compression station at PL305.
  • ERA 14 Electricity generation – Hybrid power station at PL305.
  • ERA 63 Sewage treatment – Warehouse and offices, temporary accommodation camp, and temporary mobile drilling camps at PL305 and PL492.
  • ERA 16 Extractive and screening activities – Gravel pits at PL305, PL491 and PL492.

This amendment does not seek to increase the number of currently approved wells on EA0001399.
