Bowen domestic gas business
Arrow delivers almost 20 per cent of Queensland's gas. We own and operate one gas-fired power station and have off-take rights at two others in Queensland, giving us 600MW of net generation capacity which is enough to power 800,000 average-sized Queensland homes.
Electricity generation in the Bowen
Arrow generates electricity under long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with the Townsville power station. Arrow has 50 per cent interest in electricity sales from the Townsville power stations.
The Townsville Power Station, owned by RATCH-Australia and operated by Transfield Worley Power Services, is a 234MW combined cycle gas turbine plant, located at Yabulu, near Townsville. Arrow and AGL are sole providers of gas to the station and share rights to all electricity generated at the power station.
CSG for the power station is supplied wholly from the Moranbah Gas Project Joint Venture and transported to Townsville via the North Queensland Gas Pipeline.
Arrow is expanding its operations in the Bowen Basin with a major coal seam gas exploration, development and production project.
The Moranbah Gas Project (MGP) lies in the Bowen Basin, west of Mackay, and is a 50/50 joint venture between Arrow and AGL (Arrow is the operator).
The MGP has supplied gas domestically since 2004. Today it supplies Townsville Power Station, an ammonium nitrate plant in Moranbah and mineral refining facilities in north Queensland.
In addition to our significant commitment to the domestic market, we are also working to meet growing international demand for cleaner energy. Production across Arrow's broader Bowen Basin acreage will increase through the Bowen Gas Project, located adjacent to the MGP.
Gas will be transported to Gladstone through the Arrow Bowen Pipeline.
