Women in regional, rural and remotes communities who experience domestic violence can face significant barriers when seeking information and support.

Our partnership with Women’s Legal Services Queensland (WLSQ) brings free legal and welfare help to women in communities of Surat and the Bowen Basin. The primary focus is on domestic violence, and complex family law.

Rural, Regional and Remote Training and Legal Advice Program

The program builds the capacity of local service providers to identify and respond to domestic violence with the aim of creating safer communities. The training incorporates a specialist focus on safety planning, domestic violence protection orders and family law issues, to support regional service providers who are often the first point of contact for domestic violence disclosures.

An important component of the training sessions are the resources provided to all participants which can be utilised in their daily practice.

Providers are also able to refer women experiencing domestic violence for free legal advice conducted by the trainers whilst in the regions and to the services of WLSQ.
