India is the world's fifth largest energy consumer and is committed to exploiting its significant coal seam gas potential. Arrow Energy drilled its first international well in India in May 2008.

*

In August 2006, Arrow was awarded three license blocks in India with Indian Government estimated coal seam resources in excess of 10,000 petajoules (PJ). All three blocks (Raj Mahal, Tatapani-Ramkola, and Mand-Raigarh) are in partnerships with leading Indian gas company GAIL (India) Limited and Energy Infrastructure Group of Sweden. Indian power company, Tata Power Limited, is also a partner in the first two blocks.

The Arrow-led consortium had bid on seven of the 10 blocks offered in the license round. The three blocks that were awarded were those ranked 1, 2 and 4 by Arrow according to our scale based on commercial and technical parameters.

In May 2008, Arrow drilled its first overseas well at the Tatapani-Ramkola (TR) block as part of a 39-well program to be completed over 12 months (13 wells will be drilled on each block consisiting of eight exploration wells and five pilot wells). Well ATR-1 was drilled approximately 90 km to the south of the city of Ambikapur in the northern part of the State of Chhattisgarh.

As estimated by the Director General of Hydrocarbons India, the TR block has an area of 460 km2 and a gas resource of 1,900 PJ, the Raj Mahal block has an area of 469 km2 and a gas resource of 5,900 PJ, and the Mand-Raigarh block has an area of 634 km2 and a gas resource of 4,200 PJ.

Other opportunities are under review.
