Biodiversity
Biological diversity provides significant cultural, economic, educational, environmental, scientific and social benefits for the communities in which Arrow operates.
Biodiversity refers to all life forms within an ecosystem – the different plants, animals and micro-organisms, and the genes they contain.
In addition to Arrow's commitment to meeting the world's energy needs with a cleaner energy source, we have incorporated biodiversity conservation principles into our operational practices, and agreements with staff, contractors and other service providers. These principles include:
- Adopting ecosystem database searches to ensure Arrow's infrastructure does not impact on classified regions of vegetation and animal habitat conservation.
- Funding catchment-wide water management programs that measure existing systems in order to make informed decisions about the management of surface water in the future.
- Initiating research and development into best practice ways to manage and utilise coal seam gas water. To date we have developed nine beneficial uses for coal seam gas water. Arrow is currently recycling 4ML per day to cattle feedlots and up to a further 5.6ML per day will be used in a local desalination plant planned for the Dalby region.
- Fauna and flora base-lining at all of our sites to ensure infrastructure does not impact protected areas during construction and operation.
- Funding training programs at local high schools to ensure environment and biodiversity principles are passed onto the next generation.
- Arrow has initiated an Invasive Pest Species Management system including the assessment of all of our vehicles that could convey weeds and pests from one area to another. To facilitate this, we are building a vehicle wash-down station at the Stratheden Gas Field.
- Rehabilitation is ongoing at Arrow and incorporates surface erosion control techniques. This is a priority at Arrow which is demonstrated by our considerable financial guarantees lodged with the government for rehabilitating our entire operational areas
