Mater Medical Research Institute.
The Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI) is a world-class medical research institute conducting research that is aimed at improving health care.
The MMRI is located at the Mater hospital campus in South Brisbane, Queensland. Driven by a ‘bench to bedside’ philosophy, the MMRI's leading scientists work alongside doctors to turn basic scientific discovery into better treatment for patients.
The MMRI is helping to improve treatment for a range of illnesses and diseases including:
• Cancer including prostate cancer, leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
• Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohns disease and Ulcerative Colitis
• Gastrointestinal bacteria such as Helicobacter and Campylobacter
• Type 1 Diabetes
• Heart attack
• Stroke
• Complications of solid organ and bone marrow transplants
• Infectious diseases including Hepatitis C and HIV
Arrow Energy has been a major supporter of the MMRI’s development of a therapeutic vaccine for prostate cancer which aims to stimulate the immune system to fight cancer, in the same way that it would a cold or flu. The MMRI is currently conducting a Phase 1 clinical trial to assess the safety of the vaccine. A total of 12 patients with metastatic prostate cancer are taking part in the phase 1 trial. More patients will take part in later stages.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men after non-melanoma skin cancers. Arrow Energy’s growing workforce is male-dominated so we are committed to supporting any efforts which may one day improve treatment.
